ECT CalBoard V2 — Analyst User Guide

Foreword — What is CalBoard?

CalBoard is the real-time inspection tracking board used during an ECT outage. Every analyst claims their assigned CALs here so the team has a live picture of inspection progress — who has what, what is complete, and what still needs work.

There are three user roles on CalBoard. Analysts (the audience for this guide) claim CALs, update cell states, and message teammates. Admins manage jobs, components, and analysts. Admin tasks are covered in a separate guide.

CalBoard is accessed at ecthub.com. It works in any modern browser — no software installation required. It is part of the ECT Hub suite alongside the Acquisition and Analysis desktop clients.

F.1 Who this guide is for

This guide is written for analysts. It covers everything you need to read the board, claim and update your CALs, use direct messaging, and manage your own account.

If you have Admin access and need to configure jobs, components, or analyst accounts, refer to the Admin Guide.

Chapter 1: Signing In

1.1 The login page

  1. Go to ecthub.com and click Login in the navigation bar.
  2. In the Analyst box, start typing your name or analyst code. A dropdown list will appear — click your name to select it.
  3. Enter your password in the field below.
  4. Click Sign in.

1.2 First login

New accounts start with a default password "Merrick". On your first login, you will be prompted to set a personal password before you can access the board. This only happens once — after that you use your own password every time.

1.3 Signing out

The top-right corner of the header shows a Logout button with your analyst code (e.g., "Logout (J1019)"). Click it to end your session. Sessions do not time out automatically, so sign out when you are done on a shared computer.

Chapter 2: CalBoard Layout

2.1 Header bar

The header runs across the top of every CalBoard page. On the left: the ECT CalBoard brand and navigation links — CalBoard, Admin dropdown (admin accounts only), User Guide, and Logbook. On the right: the Messages pill showing your unread count, and your Logout button.

2.2 Left sidebar

The left sidebar lists all active outage jobs. Each job tile shows the plant photo, job name, and two links:

  • Logbook — opens the shift logbook for this job in a new tab.
  • Daily Status — opens the daily status page in a new tab.

Click a job tile to load that job's CalBoard in the main area.

2.3 Main board area

The main board area occupies the right three-quarters of the screen. At the top is the summary bar with filter pills and Hide checkboxes (covered in Chapter 5). Below it is the board table, organized into component sections.

The board auto-refreshes. The "Refreshed: HH:MM:SS" timestamp at the top-right of the board shows when data was last pulled from the server.

Chapter 3: Reading the Board

3.1 Component sections

Components are grouped into three sections:

  • IN PROGRESS — active work is underway on at least one CAL.
  • NOT STARTED — no open CALs yet.
  • COMPLETE — all work finished; marked complete by an admin.

Within each section, components are sorted alphabetically by name. Click the chevron to the left of a component name to collapse or expand its CAL list. IN PROGRESS components start expanded; NOT STARTED and COMPLETE start collapsed.

3.2 Column layout

Each CAL row has the following columns:

Column Contents
CALCAL number. A blue background means the CAL is flagged for remote analyst work (see §3.5).
TubesTube count acquired for this CAL. This number is total .DAT files minus plug entries and duplicates.
PROBEProbe model from instrument data (SUM file). Hover for standards type and serial number. Shows if no data is available yet.
ACQAcquisition.
PRIPrimary analyst.
DMData manager.
RESResolution analyst.
SEC / TER / AUTSecondary, Tertiary, Auto analyst — appear only when activated for this component by an admin.

3.3 Cell states

Each analyst cell (ACQ, PRI, DM, RES, etc.) displays one of five states:

Appearance Meaning
J1019 Complete — analyst has finished this CAL.
J1019 In Progress — claimed and being worked.
J1019 INC (Incomplete) — flagged as incomplete; needs follow-up.
Empty — not yet claimed.
J1019 VOID — this assignment has been voided by an admin.

Your own cells show a subtle highlight so you can spot your work at a glance.

3.4 Hover tooltips

Hover over any claimed analyst cell to see a tooltip showing: the analyst's full name, certification level, company, and their analysis code. Hover over the PROBE cell to see the standards type and standards serial number from the SUM file.

3.5 Remote flag

A CAL flagged for remote analyst work is visually distinct:

  • The CAL number cell turns blue.
  • A blue left border appears on the entire row.
  • A subtle blue tint covers the whole row background.

Remote means the CAL has been identified as needing off-site analysis — the data will be sent to a remote analyst rather than worked on-site.

Any analyst can toggle the remote flag: right-click the CAL number to open a context menu and select the toggle option.

Chapter 4: Working the Board

4.1 Claiming a CAL

Click an empty cell in your role column (e.g., PRI, ACQ, DM). The cell transitions to In Progress.

4.2 The tap cycle

Once you have claimed a cell, clicking it cycles through states:

Empty → Your code (In Progress) → Complete → INC → Empty

Each click advances to the next state. Keep cycling past INC to return to Empty if you need to release the CAL.

Desktop shortcuts (skip the full cycle):

  • Shift+Click — jump directly to INC.
  • Ctrl+Click (or Cmd+Click on Mac) — jump directly to Complete.

4.3 Marking incomplete (INC)

INC (Incomplete) flags a CAL that has been started but cannot be finished yet — for example: shift change. An INC cell shows yellow.

Cycle the cell again to clear the INC back to Empty, or use Shift+Click on an In Progress cell to jump directly to INC.

4.4 Clearing a claim

To release a CAL you have claimed (e.g., for reassignment), cycle the cell through to Empty. This removes your code from the cell and makes it available for another analyst to claim.

4.5 Hiding rows

Two checkboxes in the filter bar control row visibility:

  • Hide completed CALs — hides CAL rows where all active roles show Complete. Useful for keeping focus on open work.
  • Hide VOID rows — hides any CAL row that has been voided.

These settings persist only for your current browser session.

Chapter 5: Summary Bar

5.1 Filter pills

The summary bar above the board shows status at a glance and lets you filter:

Pill Meaning
INC N N incomplete CAL assignments across the board.
IN PROGRESS N N CALs currently in progress (at least one role claimed and not complete).
YOURS N N CAL assignments belonging to you.
N of M Components in Progress How many of this job's components have active work underway.

Clicking the INC, IN PROGRESS, or YOURS pill filters the board to show only matching rows. Click again to clear the filter.

Chapter 6: Direct Messaging

6.1 Overview

CalBoard includes direct messaging so operators, analysts, and data managers can communicate. Messages are tied to analyst pairs, not jobs — one conversation thread exists per pair of analysts regardless of which job you are on. Messages are retained for 90 days and then automatically cleaned up.

6.2 Two ways to open messaging

There are two access points:

  • Messages button (top-right header) — opens the Messages page as a standalone popout window. Use this to browse all your conversations or start a new one. The popout has a two-panel layout: analyst search on the left, chat on the right. You can search and message any analyst in the system — they do not need to have a claimed cell on the current job.
  • Right-click an analyst cell — right-clicking a claimed cell on the CalBoard opens a slideout panel for that specific analyst. This is the fastest way to message someone you can see on the board.

6.3 The chat panel

Whether you open a conversation via the popout or the right-click slideout, the chat panel shows the full conversation history with that analyst, oldest messages at the top and newest at the bottom.

  • Type in the text box and press Enter (or click Send) to send a message.
  • Press Escape or click × to close the panel.
  • Only one chat panel is open at a time — opening a second conversation closes the first.

6.4 Unread messages

The Messages button in the header turns orange and shows a count when you have unread messages. The browser tab title also reflects the count: "(3) ECT CalBoard". Both update in real time without requiring a page refresh.

6.5 Notifications

The first time you open CalBoard, your browser may ask for notification permission. If you allow it, a desktop pop-up notification appears when a new message arrives and the CalBoard tab is in the background. If you decline, or if your browser does not support notifications, the Messages pill and tab title still show the unread count — you just won't get a pop-up.

6.6 Offline delivery

Messages sent while you are logged out or on a different page are saved and waiting. The next time you open CalBoard, any unread messages will be present in the Messages panel and reflected in the unread count.

Chapter 7: Your Account

7.1 Your password

Every analyst has their own individual password — there is no shared or global password. New accounts start with a default password your admin will give you. You are required to set your own personal password on first login.

7.2 Password reset

There is no email-based password reset. If you are locked out or have forgotten your password, ask any admin to reset it. After a reset, your account returns to the default password and you will be prompted to set a new one on next login.

7.3 Admin password resets

Admins can reset any analyst's password from Admin → Analysts. Resetting your password does not affect any other analyst — every account is independent.
